
Sophia Mulholland
2nd Grade
Originally from New Zealand, Sophia began her teaching career in 2019 as an English teacher in Guatemala, working with USAID employees. She holds a Master of Business Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Canterbury, along with a Graduate Diploma in Teaching from the University of Auckland. Most recently, she taught 4th grade at Chicago City Day School, bringing a wealth of international experience and a passion for inquiry-driven education.

Sophia’s teaching philosophy centers on student-led learning and fostering intellectual curiosity. She believes in creating classrooms where children feel confident, creative, and empowered to explore their ideas through reading, writing, and collaborative problem-solving. Guided by her experiences working and volunteering throughout Central and South America, Sophia is committed to supporting the academic and social-emotional growth of each student through a responsive, nurturing, and high-expectation environment.

At AESA, Sophia looks forward to building a joyful, engaging classroom community that encourages independence and a love of learning. On weekends, she enjoys being outdoors, practicing yoga, going to the gym, and painting. Her global perspective and dedication to lifelong learning help make her classroom a space where students feel inspired, supported, and ready to thrive.
