Cindy Herring

Director of Academics, Academic Support & College Counseling

Cindy Herring is thrilled to be part of the AESA faculty and brings more than 30 years of experience as a teacher, instructional leader, and school administrator. She currently serves as AESA’s Director of Academics, where she provides strategic leadership for curriculum, instruction, assessment, student support, professional learning, and college-readiness programming across the school.

Cindy is an experienced academic administrator and instructional and curriculum specialist with a proven record of strengthening teaching and learning through curriculum alignment, data-informed decision making, and faculty coaching. She leads the design and implementation of academic systems, supports faculty evaluation and professional growth, oversees academic programming and student support structures, and partners closely with families and school leadership to ensure students receive high-quality, individualized instruction. Her work includes developing evidence-based instructional practices, strengthening literacy and intervention programming, and building systems that support both student achievement and teacher effectiveness.

Cindy holds a Bachelor of Science in Education with a Reading Endorsement from Texas State University and a Master of Education in Advanced Literacy from Concordia University. She holds Texas teaching certifications in Elementary Education, Reading, ELAR (4–8), and ESL. She is also a Certified Advanced Reading Specialist and a Certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist through the International Dyslexia Association.

Now in her eighth year at AESA, Cindy draws on her experience teaching preschool through high school and serving in multiple school leadership roles focused on academic program design, faculty development, and instructional improvement. She has led campus-wide initiatives in curriculum alignment, assessment practices, and intervention systems; facilitated professional learning for teachers; supported instructional evaluation and coaching cycles; and collaborated closely with school administrators to strengthen academic programming and student support services. She has also operated a private educational consulting practice and designed and led academic intervention and enrichment programs for students with diverse learning profiles. These experiences continue to shape her commitment to inclusive, differentiated instruction and to building strong, trust-based partnerships with educators and families.

Cindy lives with her family in Southwest Austin. In her free time, she enjoys reading, exploring the Austin area, and traveling.
