AESA Prep Academy CEO & Executive Head of School

Barbara A. Garza, an award-winning leader in education, has spent over forty years transforming the way learning is approached. As the Executive Director, Head of School of AESA Prep  Academy of Austin, and Superintendent of AESA International School System, Barbara drives innovation and excellence in education. Her illustrious career is marked by her vast experience in numerous educational environments; serving on numerous academic boards, such as  McNeil High School’s Leadership Team, Austin ISD’s Superintendent Teacher Advisory Board, and St. Stephen's Episcopal School’s Admin Team.  A recipient of a Governor of Texas Teaching Award and an award for Partners in PE contributions for special needs students underscores her dedication to creating inclusive and forward-thinking educational environments for all students. Barbara believes in creating supportive, uplifting, and positive environments that help build student’s confidence as they strive to fulfill their dreams and goals.

 

Under Barbara's visionary leadership, AESA Prep Academy has thrived with its ‘Small-by-Design’ philosophy, ensuring personalized attention that helps students excel academically and socially. The school’s curriculum, accredited by Cognia/AdvancEd and approved by the NCAA, is meticulously designed to prepare students for success in higher education and beyond. Recent expansions, including the opening of the Elementary School Building and the launch of the AESA Culinary Institute, further showcase Barbara’s dedication to broadening educational opportunities.

 

The AESA Culinary Institute, spearheaded by renowned Chef Aran, exemplifies AESA’s innovative spirit. Her belief in the importance of nourishing the whole child through providing one of the cleanest lunch programs in the country exemplifies her commitment to excellence. Barbara is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Anderson High School of Austin.
